The printer does not use color at all when printing black (greyscale). This is unlike all 4 cartridge HP printers which use or need the 3 color cartridges operating even when printing in black only!

IS there a color Ink for HP Color Copier 290? Is it the Color 78?

The HP 290 uses HP 78 ink. The 78 cartridge has been discontinued as all models the cartridge has been compatible with are discontinued and have been for over a decade.

I have HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus printer. I usually use ink cartridge # 951. Stores in my area do not have them. Are there other cartridge # I can use? Can I use 950? I need black ink NOW. If you have any compatible ones, I would like to order. Patra.

45 Black is great! My question is about 78 color cartridge - Why would HP only have the Black 45 and not the Color 78 to go along with it? The only HP printer to work perfectly every time is our DeskJet 990Cse printer after all these years!!
