Defective cartridges.
Product is usually perfect, but these two were somehow defective. They wouldn’t work in my printer. Printer kept telling me there was a problem. Bought two new cartridges at a store and they work fine. I don’t have the original packages to return, but I will note them in the next package of used cartridges I send back.

Color Cartridge was faulty out of the box
Very disappointed that the color cartridge did not work and my printer wouldn't even function with the faulty color cartridge loaded. I've replaced these cartridges dozens of times and this is the first time a new HP cartridge would not function. My printer just said, "must be replaced" after installing the new one. I had to put my old color cartridge back in just to be able to print black and white prints from the the black ink cartridge. The store wouldn't take them back because both cartridges had been opened and installed, so now I'm out the cost of another color cartridge at nearly $30!

Great for just black ink printing
Black ink is great and bright. The color cartridge very dull and red is light pink after printing two pages a boxed popped up and said my color ink cartridge is not an original HP cartridge and then I closed that box and another popped up and said my color ink is out of ink yup after two pages of text and not all color but black as well. Again no problem with the black ink.

Can only give you impressions from previous use of this product. This was used to have on hand when present cartridges run out. Works fine, doesn't last very long though if you have a reasonable amount of printing, black usually runs out the quickest.

Hello. Thanks for your question. You cannot replace the tricolor ink cartridge with a black ink cartridge. You can use your printer in single-cartridge mode. That means you can take out the tricolor ink cartridge. And the printer will go into single cartridge mode automatically so you can print with the black ink cartridge.
