There has always been a good lead-time on the expiration date also. In the past 2-3 years I have been using the XL cartridges and been quite pleased with longer time between replacements.

Over the years I've owned several HP printers. For each, I've made a point of purchasing HP branded ink when ink replacement is needed. My main points of contention about this ink (and other HP branded cartridges I've bought) are cost and expiration.

So I bought all four colors (C, M, Y, and B - this one). I bought these directly from HP and installed them in the printer. The printer continued to say that the cartridges were not compatible. I used HPs troubleshooting tools and recommendations. I tried - as recommended - to install new firmware in the printer. Although I could download the firmware & driver updates from HP, the firmware would not install on the printer. I finally gave up, took the HP printer to electronics recycling, and bought another brand of printer.

I just installed this cartridge (951XL Magenta) brand new out of the box and it bricks my printer! I get an error saying there is an ink error. I reinstall the depleted cartridge and the printer comes back to life but no printing yet ( depleted ink).
