Great Laptop (eventually)
I recently purchased an HP Envy 17” Laptop. Thi to replace my aging HP Pavilion DV7. HP was one of the few suppliers I could find who offered a large screen workstation with an Intel Core Ultra 7 CPU, support for large capacity DRAM, and a large (2 TB) SSD (and without an external graphics adapter). Overall, and eventually, I am very happy with this laptop. It is much lighter than the Paviliaon, while offering as similar number of USB and display ports. It came preconfigured with Windows 11, which I was easily able to setup and link to my MS account. That said, there were some hiccups I hope HP can/will address:
• Large Memory: The maximum memory configuration available from HP for this laptop was 32 GB. I would have paid additional for a 64 GB option. As it was, I purchased the laptop with the minimal configuration from HP, and then installed 64 GB of aftermarket DRAM.
• BIOS Updates: Although I upgraded all the software, including the BIOS as soon as I could after receiving the laptop, the “latest” version of BIOS did not work with 64 GB DIMMs. After trying a new SODIMM (that didn’t work) the memory vendors suggested a BIOS upgrade. Lo, there was one that was only days old. Fortunately, this supported the larger DIMMs.
• Delivery Estimation: The laptop arrived several days before the date projected when I purchased. However along the way, the online tracker never aligned with the actual delivery date. It showed a slip of a week or more right up until the time the package had arrived at DHL.

Black screen when starting up.
I had problems after usng it. I would start it in the morning to find a black screen. After the second time, I called service. It took a while to get the support person to understand and then longer for him to explain to me my part ot the instructions. It took 2 hours but we got there (it needed downloads of fixes). I don't know why the laptop didn't come with the latest upgrades. Very frustrating.

I don't see where the power cord get plugged into the computer. I see where headphones get plugged into, but not the power cord. where is it.
Thanks for your question. This HP Envy Laptop uses a USB Type-C charger. You can use either one of the USB Type-C ports on the left side of the laptop to charge it.

Can a monitor be attached and be able to close the lid while working on it without it turning off?
Thanks for your question. You can connect an external display and have the laptop lid closed. You can manage the display setup in the display settings of Windows 11.

HP-Envy 17-da0097nr - speakers are not loud, sound like a tin can! How can I fix them? My old pavilion has amazing Bose speakers. My work computer is even better. Please help! I watch YouTube, do zoom classes & want to hear it. Thank you in advance!
Where are the speakers? I only have speakers playing from the bottom, is the top one just a fan or is it bugging?
Please can someone who owns one of these run this cmd as admin "wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx" and let me know the result? Vendors are selling this with 64GB ram, but HP keeps saying it only supports 32GB max. Thank you.
