It does what it’s supposed to do
It works, that’s about it. It is difficult to insert disk. The cord provided is way too short since the USB ports in my computer are in the back and on top, not in the front.

This DVDRW is worthless and HP doesn't support it.
The product does NOT come with the software for it to operate and HP Support cannot locate the appropriate software. They (HP) has no record of this being one of their products even though it is BRANDED as HP. Their Support Staff at HP.com have no idea how to download the software or even how to get it to work. I would NOT RECOMMEND BUYING this from HP EVER.

The drive worked once and then failed to open. Still won't open and it is an expensive paperweight. The one in my HP desktop worked for a while and won't open either. This is a very cheaply made drive and overpriced.

When the new computers were'nt coming with a dvd/rw drive, what better way to see your videos or burn your favorites. This external drive is excellent. Hookup to the usb drive and you're all set. Also the price was good as well.

The Pleasure of Picking Through Physical Media
I plugged the drive into my laptop with the cable, loaded and DVD, and it showed up in Video Lab. I watched Gran Prix. Love the cinematography and the sound. To me, it's search to search through my physical media, and then, decide. To me, going out to web, and doing a search at a website is ... kind of like work.

Works exactly as expected and described. Very lightweight, small footprint, I would have liked the supplied cable to be about One Foot longer, but it is not an obstacle to use of the drive.

If you can't say something nice...
I'm sure it works fine. If it had came to me with ANY type of operating instructions, is be able to rate better! After an issue I had with HP and my experience with their printers, the last thing I wanted was an HP product in my home! But I digress.
It would have been nice to hold a piece of paper explaining the available things it can do. The last thing a consumer should do is have to take time away from set-up, and immediately jump on the web and spend time googling a user manual! I've had this since end of January and only plugged it into my laptop once to make sure it powered up.
It's very flat and difficult to insert or eject a disc. It's nice and modern looking. That's all I can truthfully say in regards to the player.
HP has been a HUGE let down to me and my family dealing with them. As a double transplant recipient and cancer survivor, this is the last bit of stress I needed.
