Bought this because I was always out of ink. So far it has fulfilled my expectations. I have only one problem. After about 100 pages it stops and tells me to take out the black cartridge and re-insert it. That doesn't clear the problem so I shut the printer off for 15 to 30 minutes and that clears the problem. The machine has its little quirks but so far I have been able to get past them.

Not what I expected.
The price is good. The printer is bit noisy and slow. It is not eligible for Instant Ink. I thought I was upgrading from my last HP but actually my last HP was better. It was no longer available so I tried a new model. It will be our spare printer at our office.

HP Smart Tank Plus
07/26/2020 Bought this to try and control costs. Installed by the prompts when new. All went as instructed. Can't believe I won't need ink for two years. So far it seems this more expensive printer ($350 plus) is as good to a little better than any previous HP printers ($100 or less) in the same printing projects. Reason I wanted to try the Smart tank is not to hassle with the cost of cartridges. Got ruined with the experience of having HP DR installed to handle all my printing issues. Good luck. wjc

failure in two weeks
Bought two weeks ago based on some of the reviews and the tank style ink system. Printer quit three days ago, says to replace the ink cartridges. HP customer support has been off line for two days, so no help from HP. Buyer beware....

Cheaply made
I should have shopped at an office supply store to inspect the printer in person. I have always used/purchased HP products and am very disappointed with the quality of this product compared to my older model.

Smaller & Quieter
We've used HP printers for years, usually until they give out. I purchased this one because the bluetooth on the then current one wasn't working and I have at least three computers all wanting to print. The bluetooth works great. The printer kicked into operation for a computer located at the far end of the house. The print quality looks very good. My only complaint is that it's slower than the previous printer and sometimes that can be a nuisance. Otherwise, so far, I'm glad we purchased it.

So productive
What a relief it has been upgrading to the HP smart tank. I was impressed to see the design and quality of it upon first taking it out of the box. And impressed with the amount of ink it comes with to get me started. I was able to set it up fairly quickly but was not able to use the google app since i couldn't find it so that was a bit disappointing. The touch screen is smaller than i would have expected but efficient. I haven't used it to fax or scan yet but I look forward to trying those aspects out as well. I was able to send my print jobs through bluetooth so that worked out great. And it prints so fast and clear. I will absolutely be able to get more done with this new heavy duty printer. I am so impressed with it overall that i will definitely be recommended to my friends with their own small businesses as well.

Printer like no other
I was beyond excited to have a printer that worked again! I was so excited that I could see how much ink I had and using after several pages. The name "Tank" is no joke, it is a tank of a printer so it does hang off my shelf a little bit. Setting up the printer was super easy once I realized I skipped a page (definitely crucial to read in order). I setup the printer from my phone via bluetooth which was awesome. Connecting to my home wifi was easy with the touchscreen!

I am so happy I took a chance on this. I seem to have nothing but trouble with printers since I am so bad at fixing any issues but this has been a dream come true in that regard. No issues, no problems for me to fix. I had to start working from home and have printing 10x more than I ever did before and this printer has been a lifesaver.

Fast printing in a small package
The HP Smart Tank Plus 651 is a great printer for the home office.
Set up:
The box came with concise instructions. It was a breeze to set up the printer following on screen prompts and the picture guide. Basically just take out all the packing material, plug it in, and install the HP app on your smart phone. The printer did not need to be connected to the computer and all firmware was upgraded automatically once you connect the printer to the internet.
Connection:
I did not need to set anything up on my computer. Both my HP laptop and MacBook found the printer on the network and I was able to print with no firmware installation.
Printing:
The printing was fast and colors were bright - both expected from HP. The bonus here was that the printer included "tanks" of ink. I have been using this printer for about a week now and the ink levels are still at the same notch on the display.
Scanning:
I was able to scan to my phone on the HP app, or scan to my laptop without installing any additional firmware.
Overall:
I would highly recommend this printer for home office use. It was easy to set up, easy to connect to your computer, and the large format ink tanks are a plus, so that you don't have to refill as often.

Its built like a toy
I have owned HP printers for many years. We have many at our office also. I am so surprised how this printer is designed and built. When compared to my last HP, this unit feels like a toy, I can't see it lasting. One obvious negative issue is instead of having a cartridge for the source paper, you have to drop it in the slot on the back of the machine. This is old technology and a surprise in a machine that cost $350.

My 1st Tank Plus Printer
The HP Smart Tank Plus 651 All-in-One is my first tank plus printer. I love how you can see through the four windows on the front panel....you will always see your ink levels with this particular printer. With the printers I have had in the past I always felt like I wasn’t getting my money worth with the traditional print cartridges. Also, I love having the convenience of the option of printing from my phone.
Setting the HP Smart Tank Plus All-in-One was fairly easy, it took about 20-30 minutes total. The instructions stated you can either use a pc downloading HP's software, or you can use their mobile app.
The HP Smart Tank Plus All-in-One connected to my wifi very easily as well to all of the other devices my family uses.
The quality of the printing is very good as well and it’s only 1 of the options the HP Smart Tank Plus 651 All-in-One has to offer. It has the capability to receive color faxes and you can take a photo of a document with your phone, and send it to your printer no matter where you are currently located.
These are part of the additional features such as AirPrint, Google Cloud or HP ePrint that gives you an email address to send attachments to be printed directly to the printer.
This printer is great for my small home office space and coincides with all of my other equipment that is Energy star as well.

Poor Features
I bought this a week ago, i boxed it up and sold it yesterday.
Inconvenient paper feeder only holds 30 sheets max.
Scann is way slow
Doesn't print envelopes
cost is ridiculous
The only advantiage is the ink.

no cord in box no ink had to go purchase after it was so difficult dealing over the phone with them i will never ever again purchase direct from hp or any product , i have had a 1000$ hp system in my company office for years, they have gone down hill

Disappointing performance
I bought this a month or so ag. Thinking a HP printer should be perfect for my small office as it got great review, Annoying factors, the printer takes itself offline without notice. The only way I have discovered to put back online is to shut down and restart (20 minutes). I have yet to discover how to create a simple scan. When I attempt to scan the printers tells me I have to go to 123.hp to install app. I have not found any instructions on scanning or copying. I attempted making a copy this morning and, after ten minutes watching a "copying" circle spin, the printer shifted to "cancelling", Having owned epson printers for several years it is amazing how obtuse the procedures for anything other than printing are. I also am not enamored of the paper feed. For a $400 printer I expected better.

Super Fast and Crisp colors
The name suits the product - 'Tank'. A bit heavier than smaller size versions but packs way better capacity for heavy papers. Always had issues with Matte finish prints, but this pulled it off with ease. I would recommend this for bulk print jobs as well.
the additional, the included print refills will last about 2-3 months with heavy print work like mine. If it's for on/off jobs then it will last about half year.
Delving into the details: The most upsetting design features are the monochrome display panel (tinier than a smartwatch display). Wish this was better- I use the USB flash drive a lot, so having a better screen would make a huge difference. Luckily the smart app can be used with PC and other devices. The bluetooth and wifi print feature saves time, as you can print and scan without needing to install or add the printer on every new device.
About the print -let me reiterate - best for bulk prints and thicker papers but don't expect a high-resolution quality.

Great printer
this is a great printer. I'm definitely happy that I upgraded. It prints so much faster than my previous 2 printers. My last one took over an hour to print 45 pages. This one took 15 minutes. I also love that I can see the actual ink on the front of the printer. Makes it easier to see instead of guessing or waiting for the printer to tell me I am low on ink. I also love how easy and mess free adding the ink is. It was so easy to set up the printer too. It took me about 15 minutes. I also love the smart hp website. There is a smart hp app that is supposed to be for Android and Apple products but I could only get it to show in the apple store, it did not come up in Google play so I cannot have it on my phone unfortunately. The website does have an easy link to be able to buy products needed for the printer as well. I love that there's an option to send an email to the printer and it prints what you send it. This printer is very good and makes things more convenient.

I highly recommend the HP Smart Tank Plus 651 Wireless All-in-One! It is one of the best printers I have ever owned!
When I unboxed the printer I discovered that it came with a plethora of ink. Both color and black, are included, that will last up to 2 years! That’s A huge perk in my book since I am always printing documents.
The HP Smart Tank Plus 651 Wireless All-in-One has many different features on it. Most importantly you have the ability to fax, scan documents, print, etc.
The HP Smart Tank Plus 651 Wireless All-in-One connect via WiFi or Bluetooth to print. fax,scan, print, etc. I was able to connect to laptops, iPads and even my iPhone very quickly and easy.
Print quality of the HP Smart Tank Plus 651 Wireless All-in-One is impressive. It is very clear and concise.

Not a good product
I bought this a few weeks ago to replace a HP deskjet pro I’d had for years. This is definitely not comparable. It doesn’t print or scan double sided. It gives error messages often & the only way to fix them has been to power off. It also has trouble scanning from the feeder. I will be returning this product.

Creative Printing with a small footprint
I currently own a printer from another manufacturer that I love , so the HP Smart Tank Plus 651 had a lot to prove to me in order to replace it. It has a couple of features that annoys me, but other features that impress me enough that it will replace my old, favorite Inkjet printer. My Printers primary use is printing documents, spreadsheets, invitations, envelopes and photos. Things I liked :
Set up was simple and quick. The setup booklet was perfect little words, lots of pictures.The ink goes a long way. Ink is supplied in bottles, not printer specific cartridges. It is easily added to tanks near the front of the printer. Ink levels are always visible. I am looking forward to spending less on printer ink. Operating the printer is intuitive when using the HP app. There are some excellent features built in the app to customize print jobs. You can grant the HP app access to other apps like Google Drive, Google Photos, Facebook and Instagram. You can share print projects with others through the app, and the best part is that you can print to the edge of the paper . Printouts are crisp and clean. There hasn`t been any stray ink marks on anything I have printed so far , even when using envelopes or thicker paper. The printer can automatically detect paper sizes. Things I did not like:
To print double-sided, you must manually flip the paper and command the printer to resume. I will need to spend a lot of time near the printer on double-sided print jobs.The paper feed is a flip out tray at the rear of the printer. It`s not easy to use if you store your printer in an enclosed space .So, double sided printing requires manually returning pages to the feed tray and hitting continue on the computer, not even the digital display of the printer. I personally like trays that you fill and insert in the front of the printer. Also, it is sometimes tough to get the paper/envelope/photo paper aligned in the tray correctly so that you don`t have jams. I will prefer to use the app to have the best experience with this printer and will probably end up giving the app a lot of permissions. Overall, I am pleased with the product.

Can't even initialize
Tried setting up and got stuck at the "install yellow ink" step, even though I already filled it with yellow ink. Setup cannot proceed any further. Contacted support and told them the problem; however, they are just sending another bottle of yellow ink which isn't fixing the problem I have.

One of the best printers I've ever owned
The HP smart tank plus was super easy to set up. When testing it's features everything worked fluidly and perfectly. One of the best things about this printer is all the ink that comes with it, which is easy to fill.
All forms of printing, corded, Bluetooth and wireless thru the HP app worked as expected with no issues.
The print quality on the printer is great and photos look great when printed.

651 has had little use. Printing is terribly slow. Prints 1/2 of page, then pauses for up to a minute to finish the page. Is there any hope? If printer has been discontinued is there any warranty?

Does the 651 HP does auto feed multiple pages for copying and scanning or do you have to get a different model?
