With the cost of the toner so high, HP should give out printers for free.

I track my usage and yield for the printer in a spreadsheet. Since December 3, 2013: 25,038 monochrome & 48,907 color pages. Average 37 pages per day. For consistent reliable print quality, buy HP.

Are the dates listed on the boxes expiration dates or dates of manufacture?

They are dates of manufacture. There is no expiration date for the use of HP toner cartridges.
